We’ve all heard of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, but have you heard of #GivingTuesday? On Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2018, after shopping the deals on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, millions of people around the world will join together for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. So how can you participate in this global movement?
The easiest way to participate in #GivingTuesday is to donate money to your favorite organization. It doesn’t have to be a large donation; those small increments of even $5 or $10 add up quickly to make a difference.
USE SOCIAL MEDIA
Encourage your friends and family to donate to causes close to their hearts. Reach out on social media and use the hashtag #GivingTuesday to connect your cause with the millions of other people celebrating. If you want to start a fundraiser on social media, Facebook has a handy tool that makes it simple to support causes you care about.
RE-EVALUATE YOUR STUFF
Take stock of your closet and home, post-Black Friday binge. Are there any gently-used items you can donate to a homeless shelter, Salvation Army or another organization?
Nothing beats getting out there and donating time to your favorite organization. Serve meals at a homeless shelter, walk dogs at your local animal shelter or help out at a senior living center — anything you’re passionate about.
BRING IT HOME
While it’s great to donate time, money and items to charitable organizations during #GivingTuesday, you can celebrate at home, too! Give your grandmother a call, volunteer to help clean up after the Thanksgiving meal or play with a younger relative.
How are you celebrating #GivingTuesday? We’d love to hear about it!
